We Gotta Do Better: Pt. 1

“The people who were trying to make this world worse are not taking the day off. Why should I?”- Bob Marley

2015 was the year we as a species demonstrated just how disconnected and disharmonic we are from each other. A short break down of the war crimes and human rights violations committed globally can be found here.

Remember the break down I did of that refugee crisis? Well shit hasn’t gotten better at all. At least not for the refugees risking their lives to survive but the countries with the “burden” of opening their borders to said refugees have made a deal to work together in “stopping the criminals illegally smuggling refugees” A logical and humane solution would have been to work together in the first place and find a way to bring refugees legally AND develop an actual plan on how to help them ya know have refuge from the terrible civil war they’re fleeing.

To add to the already horrible track record of humans denying other humans help, the United States’ Immigration and Custom Enforcement (ICE) has begun a crack down on illegal Central-American families. They continue to repeat to the public that their highest level of priority are “individuals who pose a threat to national security, public safety, and border security” yet they continue to arrest people who are fleeing from gang violence in Central America! The ICE is targeting children on their way to school, they’re arresting people and using brutal force, and ultimately they are completely bypassing the critical fact that these people are REFUGEES with the rights to ASYLUM. When those facts are brought to light the same system that provides “justice for all” makes it damn near impossible for immigrants to receive counsel in filing for asylum! Then to add insult to injury once people are arrested they are held in these horrible detention centers just waiting for deportation.

I am fucking exhausted of reading and learning about the injustices served through our shit, for-profit, justice system. So, to read that a prison is doubling as a mental health facility due to millions of dollars in budget cuts has me seething.  Let me break this the fuck down: Mental health is just as important as physical health. They both actually go hand in hand. By undermining the importance of mental health and subjecting people to cram into a prison in order to be treated for their mental illness (most likely after being arrested because of said illness) you are doing damage to the community as a whole. Resources, resources, RESOURCES are vital to the health of a society. So okay, now Illinois tried to save millions by cutting their mental health budget. What actually happened? Leaving people without the proper access to healthcare led to more ER visits which in turn resulted in the state spending 131 million, they actually ended up losing 18 million because of their dumb ass decision to cut the  mental healthcare budget.

Hmm, this sounds familiar. Ah yes, Flint Michigan wanted to save money so they changed their water system from the Detroit River to the Flint River. If you happen to live under a comfortable rock let me tell you what were the results of that: The water from the Flint River is corrosive, the water filtration process is missing a key chemical to reduce this corrosiveness, the Flint water system is old as fuck and is basically laced with lead, there were high levels of lead in people’s water and their local government ignored it until 2 years passed and a pediatrician had PROOF of dangerous lead levels in children. They were supposed to save 5 million over the course of two years, they ended up spending 45 million (and rising) to fix this shit PLUS the federal government declaring a state of emergency AND now we await as hopefully those responsible are held accountable.

My question to the government both local to Flint and federal is what about the lifetime damages done to the children of an entire city? Who’s going to pay for the special education needed by those poisoned by the water? Who is going to help those families that now have to take care of a child with special needs who will one day be an adult with special needs? Who is going to begin programs preparing those children to be valuable to society? Who’s going to give them jobs? Who’s going to make sure they get the care they NEED? Where is the discussion about allocating money differently to fund the innocent people affected FOREVER by this?

Hyper-sensitive ass racists worldwide need to be stopped. Especially those whose job is to protect us.   I am 10000000% done with blatant racism, actually racism as a whole is by far one of the stupidest delusions mankind has made. One time I spent $400 on a college course titled “Race & Ethnicity”, to sum up the entire class “Ethnicity and race cannot be defined and also is a man made concept with no scientific validity nor societal advantage.”  Why are there millions all over the world being victims of this strange, useless concept? We have got to stop. Let me make it clear that those of us who have come to realize racism is absurd and have discarded it from ourselves are NOT freed from the obligations of lessening the effects of racism. Become an ally, inform yourself on systematic injustices, fight back for those being discriminated and targeted.

“First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Socialist.

Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Trade Unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.”

-Martin Niemöller (1892–1984)
